Since 1986, the Hammel Salami has been a flagship product in our range. In fact, it was with Hammel Salami as the only product that the company was founded when master butcher Lars Vestergaard left his job as a shop butcher to establish Delika.

With just 37,000 DKK in his account and a modest bank loan of one million, he was ready to create a salami that would prove to have all the qualities needed for lasting success: Premium ingredients, fantastic flavor, and expert craftsmanship. The story of Hammel Salami—and thus the beginning of Delika Food Group—is a true Danish entrepreneurial tale.

Lars was driven by one passion: to create a high-quality product he could be proud of as a craftsman. He bet everything on it. Sales were slow at first, but when the exclusive supermarket at department store Salling recognized the outstanding quality, it opened the door to the entire Dansk Supermarked, now known as Salling Group. The rest is history!

The original Hammel Salami is made from the finest beef and pork. Whole yellow mustard seeds provide a delightful taste and texture, and the seasoning—defined by Lars Vestergaard himself—is a finely tuned secret, carefully guarded by Delika Food Group. The salami is then traditionally smoked, and the artisanal production ensures a high-quality product that remains a firm favorite—whether in a lunchbox, on the table at home, or in the canteen.

Over the years, Hammel has grown into an independent brand, and the original Hammel Salami has since been joined by a range of popular cold-cut classics under the “Hammel” name. The foundation remains the same: delicious slices of premium quality, made with expert craftsmanship.

This means the series now includes several well-loved salamis, such as the classic Krospegepølse and the traditional Sønderjysk spegepølse. Among the newest members of the Hammel family are the classic Rullepølse with onion and white pepper, as well as tender slices of roast beef, made from premium beef topside.
